IT. IS. HAPPENING. // THANK YOU and let Phase II of the Journey Begin

Close to exactly one year ago today, I said yes to becoming World Concern’s Africa Communication Liaison. One year later, after support-raising, training, traveling, PRAYER, preparation, event hosting, relationship building, learning, moving, and more PRAYER, my budget has been raised and I now have an official leave date. Folks, it is happening!

On January 11th, I will be departing from California to DC, where I will spend a couple of nights with my relatives. On January 13th, I will be flying out of DC, through Heathrow, and landing in Nairobi, Kenya late at night on January 14th.

To be honest, knowing that I will be leave in one month does not evoke one marked emotion- I am experiencing about 89. As excited and ready as I am to begin working in the field, getting to know my future home and co-workers, and building relationships with those World Concern serves, I am also apprehensive to enter a period of packing up my life and saying goodbyes. I am apprehensive knowing that there is still so much I do not know about what lies ahead. Who will I become friends with? Where will I go to church? Where to I get my groceries? How will I handle and process all of the cultural differences, languages, and hardships that I am about to be swimming in?

Yet, knowing that God is Sovereign sustains me to keep all of these apprehensions in check; I can put one foot in front of the other identifying that I have the privilege of living into a small part of His plan. Great challenges may await, but I confidently believe that great triumphs, growth, and beauty will outweigh every I want to give up moment. Through His strength- not mine.

Thanks for sticking with me throughout the journey that was the last year. Thank you for your continued prayers and support. Thank you for believing in me and the work of World Concern. Thank you believing that:

“When our days become dreary with low hovering clouds of despair, and when our nights become darker than a thousand midnights, let us remember that there is a creative force in this universe, working to pull down the gigantic mountains of evil, a power that is able to make a way out of no way and transform dark yesterdays into bright tomorrows. Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice.” – Martin Luther King Jr.s sudan interview
